RULES AND REGULATIONS
Contest for the production of new texts for the
6th FESTIVAL OF THE EUROPEAN SONG BY CHILDREN
"A text for us - 10th edition

- In order to put the elementary students in contact with the creative world of music, to encourage the creation of new children's songs which represent an effective mean of communication, to improve the reciprocal knowledge of the European cultures and to promote choral singing,
the cultural association "Coro ritmico Piccole Colonne" under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and in partnership with the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Region Trentino - South Tyrol, the Valsugana Tourist Office and RAI GULP
the 10th edition of the contest "A text for us" to collect new song texts for the "Festival of the European song by children"
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
- The competition is addressed to school classes with children from 6-10 years of age. The class must send one or more song texts which have been worked out in team with the co-ordination of a teacher. For organisational reasons any texts that have been elaborated jointly by some classes together can't be accepted.
- The contest is open to elementary school classes from all over Europe.
PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS
- The theme of the songs can be chosen freely, but it must be related to the world of the children. Preference will be given to texts which can be dramatized (see point 11).
- The texts can be written in Italian or partly in Italian and partly in the language of the class.
- The text must consist at least of two verses and one refrain. In order to make the task easier we suggest following the metre of an already known song.
- The texts should be sent between 1st October 2008 and 24th January 2009 to:

- The texts must be delivered in a closed envelope in which there must be two sealed envelopes: in one of them you must insert seven copies of the text of the song with its title. In the other one you must insert the title of the song with the specification of the class who has written it, the number of students in it, the address of the school with telephone number and e-mail address and the name of the teacher who has co-ordinated the work and the name of the headmaster. On this envelope there must be written "AUTHORS". Moreover we ask you to send us a declaration of the school director in which he declares that these rules and regulations have been carefully read and approved with respect of art. 2 and 3 of the PRIZES section.
JURY
- Ten texts will be selected in February 2009 by a jury composed of educators, journalists and musicians; the ten selected texts will be WINNERS IN A DRAW.
- The list of the winning texts and of their respective authors will be published by the end of February 2009 on the home page piccolecolonne.it and in the newspapers that will be following the competition. The winning classes and their respective directors will also receive a written communication.
CONTENT'S END
The competition ends with the "Festival of the European Song by Children" that will take place in LevicoTerme, renowned tourist spot in Trentino (Italy), in February 2010. During the show the choir "Piccole Colonne" will sing all the ten songs. Each winning class will represent the song realised with its own text miming or dancing to it. The classes complete out their interpretation with an adequate choreography of costumes.
PRIZES
- The most important prize consists in the possibility of listening to a song with the text you've written! The winning texts will be set to music, orchestrated and arranged by famous musicians until they become new wonderful children's songs through the interpretation of the choir "Piccole Colonne"... they will really be for children! The songs will then be recorded on CD.
- In occasion of the Festival of the European Song by Children each winning class will be guest of the organization for few days in Levico Terme (only the travel rates will be payed by the winning classes).
- In the prize-giving nights every winning class will receive the trophy "A TEXT FOR US" and every child-author will be given the CD with the songs.
- On advice of the "Mariele Ventre" Foundation the prize "Mariele Ventre" will be given to the teacher or the teachers that have been able to stimulate in the class the creation of a text reflecting the moral message she has always been giving for all her life (Mariele Ventre, dead in 1995, directed the "Piccolo Coro dell'Antoniano" of Bologna for more than 30 years).
- Other three special awards will be assigned: the "PREMIO VALSUGANA JUNIOR" by the Tourist Board Valsugana Vacanze, the "TROFEO IL GIORNALINO" assigned by the weekly newspaper for children "IL GIORNALINO" and the "PREMIO RAI GULP" by the broadcaster on children's recommandation.
- All the schools participating in the contest, even those who haven't won, will receive the CD at the end of the competition.
GENERAL CONDITIONS
- The participation in the contest is free of charge.
- With the participation in the contest teachers and headmasters, in case of win, must be present, with their classes, in occasion of the "Festival of the European song by children" that will take place in February 2010 in LEVICO TERME (hospitality will be offered by the organisation, the winning classes have to pay travel costs). The recording of the festival will be broadcasted by RAI GULP.
- Materials sent to the the contest will not be returned.
- With the participation in the present contest you authorise the choir "Piccole Colonne" to record the songs realised for it and print them on discs, cassettes and/or CDs and to broadcast them on radio and television all over the world without limits of time. The Author's Rights for the realised text will be recognised to the teacher as co-ordinator of the work, according to the respective law.
